The Literature Empire is a book blog I’ve been running since 2014. My name is Eva, and I’m the person behind this site.
I started the blog in Czech when I was still living in the Czech Republic. When I moved to the UK in 2016, I switched to English, and the blog has been with me through quite a few life changes since. I’ve always loved reading, and this has always been my place to write about it.
What will you find on this book blog?
I mostly write book reviews and articles about literary fiction, contemporary fiction, memoirs, travel writing, and translated works. I’m selective about what I review. If something ends up here, it’s because the book gave me a reason to sit down and write about it. I’ve reviewed books like A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, One Day by David Nicholls, and Normal People by Sally Rooney, if you want to get a feel for how I write.
I also put together reading recommendations, like 3 Sad Books To Read This Autumn and my top 5 favourite books. And there’s a bit more beyond book reviews too. I write about authors I like, film adaptations, and travel posts. My Chatsworth House photo diary is probably my favourite thing I’ve written on this whole site.
Who is writing for The Literature Empire?
I’m Czech. I grew up reading everything I could get my hands on and never really grew out of it. I moved to the UK for university, where I got my MA in Publishing and BA in Media and Communication from the University of Derby.
After graduating, I worked in content strategy, SEO, and editorial for over seven years. Day to day, that meant managing writers, planning content, running site audits, and working with tools like Ahrefs, Google Search Console, Semrush, and Screaming Frog. I know that’s a different world from book blogging, but it does shape how I think about writing and structure, even here.
I recently moved to Linköping in Sweden with my partner. When I’m not reading, I’m learning Swedish, exploring outside, crocheting, baking, and spending too much time on my Animal Crossing island. You can find me on Instagram, where I share more of the bookish and cosy side of life.
